1) Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is more important than our age when it comes to age spots, wrinkles, skin elasticity, and sagging skin. 70% of skin aging depends on the amount of sunlight our skin is exposed to throughout our life.
Stay indoors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun's burning rays are the strongest. Protect your skin with clothing, hats, and always wear sunscreen if you go outside. If you're outside a lot, look for sun-protective clothing. Using skin serums that contain vitamin C will help reverse sun damage.
2) Smoking
Smoking causes fine lines on places where the skin is very thin (like the sides of the eyes and above the upper lip). These smoking lines can appear 10-15 years sooner than non-smokers.
A major problem for smokers is that vitamin C levels in their blood is on average 60% lower than non-smokers. Eat foods high in vitamin C (berries, citrus, kiwi) as well as choose skin serums that contain MAP vitamin C, which is light and oxygen stable insuring it retains potency and effectiveness. Asterwood Naturals anti-aging serums only use MAP vitamin C.
3) Stress
Prolonged emotional stress can increase stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These accelerate the aging process. Depression has been found to decrease the life of cells that divide rapidly, such as skin and hair cells.
Regular exercise and a healthy diet can help manage stress. Getting good sleep is also critical, and sleep is one of the few times in the day during which adults secrete a growth hormone that renew our skin tissues.
