Argireline: The Topical Expression-Line Peptide

How to Use Argireline: Routine, Pairings & Retinol

TL;DR: Apply 2–3 drops of Argireline Serum to clean, dry skin on your face, neck, and décolletage, morning and night. Press it in, follow with moisturizer, and finish with SPF in the morning. Argireline® layers easily with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, copper peptides, and Matrixyl 3000®. Keep high-strength AHAs and BHAs in a separate step. If you use retinol, alternate nights: Argireline one night, retinol the next.

Where Argireline Goes in Your Routine

Argireline Serum is a lightweight, water-based serum, so it goes on right after cleansing (and after a Hyaluronic Acid serum, if you use one), before creams, oils, and SPF.

The general rule of layering is thinnest to thickest. Water-light serums first, so they reach the skin before heavier textures seal everything in. Argireline Serum fits early in that order:

  1. Cleanser
  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum (optional hydration layer)
  3. Argireline Serum
  4. Eye serum (optional)
  5. Moisturizer or cream
  6. SPF (morning only)

How to Apply It, Step by Step

Use 2–3 drops for your whole face, press and pat it in instead of rubbing, and give it a moment to absorb before your next layer.

  1. Start clean and dry. Wash with a gentle cleanser and pat your skin dry.
  2. Dispense 2–3 drops of Argireline Serum onto your fingertips.
  3. Focus where lines show up most: forehead, between the brows, and the outer corners of your eyes (on the orbital bone, not the eyelid).
  4. Press and pat the rest over your face, neck, and décolletage until absorbed.
  5. Follow with moisturizer to seal in hydration.
  6. In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum SPF.

Patch test first: before your first full application, apply a small amount to your neck and wait 24 hours.

Morning or Night?

Both. Argireline Serum is designed for AM and PM daily use, and twice-daily use is how the ingredient has been studied [1].

Unlike retinoids and exfoliating acids, Argireline doesn't speed up cell turnover, so there's no special reason to keep it to nighttime. Using it in the morning and evening simply gives you more consistent use, and consistency is what drives visible results.

A simple AM routine

  1. Barrier Boost Gel Cleanser
  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum
  3. Argireline Serum
  4. Optional: Vitamin C Serum as a separate step
  5. Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Aging Moisturizer
  6. Broad-spectrum SPF

A simple PM routine

  1. Barrier Boost Gel Cleanser
  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum
  3. Argireline Serum
  4. Triple Repair Cream

What Pairs Well With Argireline

Argireline is one of the easiest actives to build around. It pairs well with hydrating ingredients, Vitamin C, and other peptides.

  • Hyaluronic Acid: the hydration base under everything. Hyaluronic Acid is a moisture-binding molecule your skin also makes, drawing water into the skin's surface layers and helping skin hold on to it, so every active that follows has a well-hydrated base to work on.
  • Vitamin C: use the Vitamin C Serum in the morning for a brighter-looking tone alongside your Argireline.
  • Copper peptides: a different peptide with a different job, focused on the look of firmness and texture. See the Copper Peptides guide.
  • Matrixyl 3000: a peptide for the look of firmness. It's such an obvious partner that Asterwood combines the two in the Matrixyl 3000 + Argireline Serum.
  • Ceramides: the Triple Ceramide Barrier Serum adds comfort and softness for dry or sensitive-feeling skin.
  • Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum: layers right after Argireline Serum for the under-eye area.

What to Keep Separate

Two categories are better kept out of the same step as Argireline: high-strength exfoliating acids and retinol.

  • High-concentration AHAs and BHAs (glycolic, lactic, salicylic): use them in a different routine, like a separate evening, rather than layered in the same step.
  • Retinol: alternate nights. More on that below.

The gentle PHA (gluconolactone) already inside Asterwood's Argireline Serum is a different story. It's a mild acid chosen because it refines the look of skin texture without a pH conflict with the peptide.

Can You Use Argireline With Retinol?

Yes, just not on the same night. Asterwood's guidance is to alternate: use Argireline on one night and retinol the next. Argireline also works well in your morning routine, while retinol stays at night.

Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that speeds up skin cell turnover. It's effective, but it's known for dryness and irritation, especially early on [3], and retinol routines call for diligent daily SPF. Argireline works differently and doesn't speed up turnover. Alternating keeps your routine simple and gives skin a break from retinol's intensity.

A sample week with retinol

  • Every morning: Hyaluronic Acid Serum → Argireline Serum → moisturizer → SPF
  • Retinol nights: cleanser → retinol → moisturizer
  • Off nights: cleanser → Hyaluronic Acid Serum → Argireline Serum → Triple Repair Cream

Asterwood doesn't sell retinol, and you don't have to choose. Many people use both. For a deeper look at how peptides and retinol compare, see Peptides vs. Retinol: Can You Use Both? If you use a prescription retinoid, follow your dermatologist's instructions on timing.

If you're pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare provider before using retinoids or adding any new active ingredient.

Using Argireline With Other Asterwood Products That Contain It

Several Asterwood products already contain Argireline, and it's fine to combine a serum, the eye serum, and the cream. They're designed to layer, and each one adds something different.

  • Argireline Serum: the focused, all-over serum step
  • Matrixyl 3000 + Argireline Serum: use it instead of Argireline Serum if you also want support for the look of firmness in one step
  • Triple Repair Serum: adds stable Vitamin C for a brighter-looking tone alongside both peptides
  • Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum: an eye-area step that layers after your serum
  • Triple Repair Cream: a PM cream that seals in your serums and adds Matrixyl 3000 and Argireline

A simple rule: pick one serum as your main Argireline step (Argireline Serum, Matrixyl 3000 + Argireline Serum, or Triple Repair Serum, not several at once), then add the eye serum and cream as needed. That keeps your routine simple and your cost per use reasonable.

How Long Before You See Results?

Skin feels hydrated right away. Expression lines can begin to look softer within the first week, with continued improvement through eight weeks and maximum visible benefit at twelve weeks or more of consistent AM and PM use.

  • Immediately: Hydrated, cushioned, visibly plumper skin
  • 1 week: Visible softening of fine expression lines can begin
  • 2–4 weeks: A more refined-looking surface; makeup applies more smoothly
  • 6–8 weeks: Continued improvement in the look of expression lines
  • 12+ weeks: Maximum visible benefit

Results may vary based on consistency, starting skin condition, age, sun exposure, and other factors.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A few habits make the biggest difference:

  • Using it once a day, sometimes. Twice daily, every day, is the goal.
  • Quitting at week two. The more visible changes build over six to twelve weeks (results may vary).
  • Skipping moisturizer. It seals in the hydration that makes lines look softer.
  • Skipping SPF. Sun exposure drives much of visible facial aging [2].
  • Using too much. 2–3 drops covers the whole face. More isn't better.
