Hyaluronic Acid: The Complete Hydration Guide

Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides: How to Pair Them

The short answer: Hyaluronic Acid and peptides do different jobs, which is why they pair so well. Hyaluronic Acid hydrates. Peptides target specific concerns like the look of firmness or expression lines. Apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum first, then your peptide serum, then moisturizer. Asterwood's peptide serums are already built on a Hyaluronic Acid base, so the pairing is part of the formula too.

Why Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides Work Well Together

They don't compete. Hyaluronic Acid handles hydration, and peptides handle targeted concerns. Using both covers two jobs without doubling up.

If you've ever wondered whether you're overloading your routine, this pairing is one of the simplest ones out there. The two ingredients do different jobs and layer easily.

  • Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant. It draws in and holds onto water, so skin looks plumper and feels more comfortable.
  • Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Different peptides are used for different visible concerns.

Good skin starts with hydration, and a well-hydrated base helps the steps that follow go on more comfortably. That's the reason Asterwood builds its peptide serums on Hyaluronic Acid.

What Peptides Do

In skincare, each peptide is chosen for a specific visible result.

"Peptides" covers a lot of ingredients, and they don't all do the same thing. Here are the three Asterwood uses most:

Matrixyl 3000

A pair of peptides (palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7) that visibly improve the look of firmness and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Argireline

A peptide (acetyl hexapeptide-8) that helps visibly soften the look of expression lines around the eyes, forehead, and mouth.

Copper Peptides (GHK-Cu)

A small peptide bound to copper that helps visibly improve the appearance of firmness, elasticity, and texture. Its blue-green color comes from the copper itself.

Why Asterwood Builds Peptide Serums on Hyaluronic Acid

Every Asterwood peptide serum includes Hyaluronic Acid, so each application delivers hydration along with the peptide.

This isn't an accident. Asterwood's approach is that good skin starts with hydration, and actives tend to go on more comfortably over a hydrated base. So the Hyaluronic Acid is built right into the formula:

  • Argireline Serum: 2% Argireline with 1% Hyaluronic Acid, in six ingredients
  • Matrixyl 3000 + Argireline Serum: 3% Matrixyl 3000 and 2% Argireline with 1% Hyaluronic Acid, in eight ingredients
  • Copper Peptides Serum: GHK-Cu with 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid, in six ingredients

Short ingredient lists, no fragrance, no fillers. Each one does its peptide job and a hydration job at the same time.

Which Peptide Fits Your Goal?

Match the peptide to the concern you care about most. All three pair with Hyaluronic Acid.

Your main concern Peptide Asterwood serum

The Right Layering Order

Thinnest to thickest: Hyaluronic Acid Serum, then your peptide serum, then moisturizer. SPF last in the morning.

If you're unsure where each step goes, this order works for nearly any routine:

  1. Cleanse with a gentle cleanser.
  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum. A small amount of Hyaluronic Acid Serum on clean skin.
  3. Peptide serum. Two to five drops, depending on the product. Press it into skin.
  4. Moisturizer. Seal everything in.
  5. SPF every morning.

Give each layer a moment to absorb before the next. For more on application, read how to use hyaluronic acid serum.

Do You Need a Separate Hyaluronic Acid Serum?

Not always. Your peptide serum already contains Hyaluronic Acid. A separate Hyaluronic Acid layer is worth adding if your skin runs dry or you live somewhere dry.

If your skin feels comfortable with just your peptide serum and moisturizer, you're covered. Add Hyaluronic Acid Serum underneath if:

  • Your skin feels tight by midday
  • You live in a dry climate or spend winters in heated rooms
  • You're also using a drying active, like retinol or an exfoliating acid, on other nights
  • You want a plumper, dewier finish

Sample Morning and Night Routines

Here are two routines built around Hyaluronic Acid and peptides. Swap in the peptide that fits your goal.

Morning

  1. Barrier Boost Gel Cleanser
  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum
  3. Argireline Serum or Matrixyl 3000 + Argireline Serum
  4. Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer
  5. SPF

Night

  1. Barrier Boost Gel Cleanser
  2. Hyaluronic Acid Serum
  3. Copper Peptides Serum or your peptide serum of choice
  4. Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer or Triple Repair Cream

That's four or five steps, each with a clear job. Simple. Clean. Effective.

Can You Use More Than One Peptide?

Yes. Many peptides layer together. Asterwood's Matrixyl 3000 + Argireline Serum combines two in one bottle.

If you want to cover more than one concern, you have two easy options. Choose a serum that already combines peptides, or use different peptide serums at different times of day. For detailed pairing guides, see how to layer peptides in your routine and Matrixyl 3000 and copper peptides.

What to Keep Separate

Hyaluronic Acid pairs easily with most actives. The cautions come from the peptide side: keep strong exfoliating acids out of the same step as any peptide serum, and keep Copper Peptides away from high-dose Vitamin C.

Hyaluronic Acid is rarely the source of a layering conflict. The caution comes from the peptide side. Asterwood's guidance for all three peptide serums is to use strong AHAs and BHAs in a separate step or at a different time of day. Copper Peptides should also stay apart from high-dose Vitamin C. If you use retinol, Asterwood's guidance for its Matrixyl 3000 and Argireline serums is to alternate them with retinol on different evenings. For retinol specifically, read can you use hyaluronic acid with retinol.

Tips for Sensitive Skin

Start with one peptide, patch test first, and keep the rest of the routine simple.

If your skin reacts easily, introduce one new product at a time and give it a couple of weeks before adding anything else. Patch test on your neck before your first full-face use. Every Asterwood formula is fragrance-free, which removes one common irritant from the equation. Hyaluronic Acid itself is generally well tolerated, and our Hyaluronic Acid Serum is made for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

How Long Until You See Results?

Hydration from Hyaluronic Acid is immediate. Visible peptide benefits build over weeks of daily use.

Results may vary based on consistency, starting skin condition, and other factors.

Expect skin to look and feel more hydrated right away. Peptide results take longer: Asterwood's peptide serums list visible changes starting anywhere from 1 to 8 weeks, depending on the peptide, with the fullest results at 12 weeks and beyond.
